Default Steering wheel shaking!!!

I just put my rims back on and now when I hit 30-35mph my steering wheel shakes back and forth.. So I immediately made a u-turn and went back to the shop... I had them do a wheel balance on all four rims but it's still doin the same thing at like 30mph... Anyone have any ideas on wat else could be wrong or did they just do a bad job with balancing the rims?

I have Toyota and Lexus vehicles. With the Toyota the tire shops need to use a special adaptor to balance the wheel. I believe it is spelled Haweka. Lexus may require the same tool if these are Lexus rims and not aftermarkets.

If you had these wheels on before without any problems, I would suspect your tires are out of round! Most probably due to storage.

Did they check for tire defect?

I had this problem on brand new tires which were replaced by Tire Rack.

I had the problem once with my Audi and it turned out that one of the tires was defective. I would have them re-check the tires.

Take the wheels off, and have them re-torqued back on "manually" in a star shaped manner. DO NOT use a machine!

Also, make sure the hub rings are not installed backwards.

I would speak with the service manager and get them to respin the wheels. If the car was OK going into the shop and all you had done was tire change, I would suspect it's just out of balance. I actually had to explain to the service manager that his road force balancer had to be calibrated from time to time. At that point, he figured out that I have a clue and he got the work done correctly. It could be just a bad tire but I haven't seen a bad new tire for several years now. Maybe I've just been lucky!

I would try swapping the tires front-to-rear, unless you have staggered wheels, and see if it still shakes. If the tire is defective, it will not feel as pronounced on the rear.
