My better half's Acura does this actually. There is a little switch right above the rear license plate and as long as the car is unlocked, you can press it and the trunk will pop open.

My Tahoe does this too actually now that I think about it. You can open both the rear hatch and the rear window as long as the vehicle's unlocked.

I guess the point of this would be say, if you get home from grocery shopping and you can open/close the trunk as you wish without getting into the vehicle and using the remote as long as the vehicle's unlocked.

Never been a problem for me. On the rare occasion I don't have my key with me, say I ran into the garage to grab something from the trunk, I just go back around and open the trunk from the drivers button. I don't have a problem pulling the door handle when I want to open the door or pushing the gas pedal when I want to go either.

Yeah Japanese and German engineers are very different, that's all I can say.

My wife's RX 350 does that too, so at least some Lexus models got it right.

The only failing of the Lexus smart key is that it has a stylized, chrome L on the fob, rather than a blue and white propeller or 3 pointed star.

I wouldn't agree with the auto-raise part entirely if it was not designed to operate subject to the rain sensor reading. If it did simply raise when popped, one who has good stuff in the trunk could go to Lexus complaining Lexus ruined his good stuff by allowing the trunk lid to raise in bad weather....

I don't know.....we have a '97 SC300 that we had to put new struts on the trunk lid......now it opens all the way slowly on it's own, even with a spoiler..it's kinda cool...

And Lexus would say, quite rightly, that such was a case of human stupidity at work.

I really would prefer the trunk lid to raise automatically. It would be much more functional.

Hey I don't see why not, the new BMW has that feature so maybe the new 4GS will have that feature
