Default open trunk w/o key

Why can't you open the trunk when the car is unlocked unless the key is present? Anyone figure a way to work around this?

Obviously, you have not been exposed to many different kinds of cars. I'll try to explain. When the doors are unlocked on other cars that I've had, you can open the trunk from the outside without the key. With the Lexus, the key has to be within range. I'm trying to avoid this. Thanks for telling me about the button, I think that's the one right next to the gas filler door release, right?

If the car's already unlocked, what's so hard about opening the door and pushing the trunk release button?

just wanted to know if anyone had a solution for a situation I had. You would think this Lexus would be as advanced as other "luxury brands".

Well it is. it just isnt a BMW, MB, or AUDI cause then Lexus would be considered a copy-cat. But really all you need to do is either carry the key in your pocket as Lexus intended or open it from inside. Unless your saying when the key is in your pocket the trunk won't open if that is the case then its a programming error and you need to see Lexus to reprogram the LPS settings for that. Hopefully that answered your question!

I prefer it that way, so no thief can open the trunk while you are sitting in the car with the keys in your pocket.

no biggie, and no way around it. Lexus smart key is much better than MB and BMW key system.

Just curious, what other type cars have you had that did this? I've owned many different makes and I'm trying to remember which ones did this. Thanks

Actually this feature is one of the very few things I don't like about my GS. The automatic feature doesn't work very well even though the remote battery is new; mostly I just push the button on the remote. As someone pointed out, the trunk should RAISE, not just pop open, which would be much easier when one is loaded with groceries, etc., etc.
