if you do superglue method, you need tape to hold the wrap in place

Even better is 3M super 77 spray adhesive, but I thought it was a little expensive for the little amount I needed.
Otherwise super77 can have a lot of uses around the house. Good for sticking fabrics and anything really.

My wife and I purchased a pre-owned 2008 GS 350 last September and just a couple of days ago I noticed the drip molding on both sides starting to peel back in several sections. Very disturbing. I purchased 3M emblem adhesive and hopefully that'll fix the issue for the time being. I feel like this issue, Lexus should remedy despite the fact the car is way beyond it's warranty. Just pisses me off that it costs $1200 plus labor to replace.

Anyone else have luck on getting it replaced outside of the warranty period? I have a service scheduled next month and I'm going to try and bring this up.

Cheers

Did the paint come out okay? Thought you can't paint stainless?

I had mine good-willed two years ago, I was out of warranty as well. I only had to pay labor for R&R.

I just noticed yesterday when I was filling up that all four corners of the roof trim on my 2002 LS430 had the tape coming loose. I have 185K on the car, so absolutely no chance of a warranty repair. (well...duh)

I also considered 3M spray adhesive, but thought that I would try some double-sided tape that I already have that is VERY sticky (can't hardly get it off my fingers!). I put that on the trim piece, and then pressed the vinyl down onto it. Actually appeared to work pretty well. You can wrap the double-sided tape around the edges and then press the vinyl around the edge with a toothpick or some other non-abrasive tool so that you don't tear the vinyl.

We shall see how well the double-sided tape holds up with our Texas weather, however. Can always try super glue next if the double-sided tape fix fails.

Mine is awful. Towards windshield, it flapped excessively and tore off from the wind on interstate. There is a local guy who is painting for me. He said he will us a type of epoxy because it is stainless. I will post before and after.

Btw, i was quoted $1800 at dealer lol

exact same thing happening to my 09' GS 350. The rails that run along both sides of the roof (front to back) are peeling up in several spots. They have not pulled completely loose and torn off like Alchemist's...but it's just a matter of time it seems. guess I'll need to read through this entire thread to get an idea of what the best fix is. I'm at 104k mi, btw.

Hope there's some sort of recall for this BS.

When mine peels badly, I'm just going to leave it stainless. I think it looks cool, contrasting the smoky granite paint

not a safety issue. no recall applies.

very slight chance of goodwill, but otherwise you live with it

the service manager at Lexus here in Nashville called his corporate contact and explained to them this is my 6th lexus, and my company has leased over 20 cars from them in the last 5 years.

They still said too bad. Ha!

Here is what I did. I notice mine pealing on the edges. My GS is 2010, 66,000 Miles.
I used loctite gel super glue on the small pealed eadges using a toothpick.
Than, I used masking tape to wrap the pealed eadges till super glue dried.
Lastly, removed the tape and put layer of clear proxy glue on all of the eadges. For more strength and additional protection.

its been few days now. We’ll see how it turns out.

This what it looked like on. Right side was worse.
