Default Question about 2006 ML system

just picked up 2006 GS430 with Mark Levinson. Does this system play MP3 format burnt to CD's? And also does it play MP3 format or regular CD format recorded on DVD Disc?

Can be cheaply solved by installing GROM USB2 adapter, or less cheaply solved by installing VAIS Medialinq.

I'm still using the GROM, it has gotten much more reasonable in terms of it's reliability since when I first bought it... and they keep releasing firmware updates. It still has a few glitches but it's only just north of $100.

I agree that it was half finished. I mean they didn't change the drivetrain at all. Plus the audio/navigation. I have an 02 GS430 and had my heart set on getting a 2006 GS430 until I drove one and it was virtually unchanged driving wise. The navigation was similar to the 02 as well. I prefer V8s, but ended up with the IS350. In the future I will get a GS460, since that has more dramatic changes.

the 06 gs430 actually has 6 speed tranny which is smoother than the 5 speed in the 02 gs430, though i agree it's not worlds of difference.

i am torn on gs460 as well, seeing it SHOULD have 380hp like the ls460 but for some reason limited to 340hp

My bad I did remeber it had a 6 speed, but yeah not much different. Im having mixed feelings about the IS350. I find myself driving the GS430 more. I would love a GS460, but want to wait for them to come down in price a little. I've also heard they have some rattle issues, and that is whats driving me nuts about the IS350.

does anybody know if the ML system will play regular CD tracks recorded on a DVD? this will be a decent compromise.

your better off just buying an ipod kit. it will save you in the long run from buying cds to burn and your time to constantly make a cd.

Guys,
I've recently picked up a 2006 GS430 with ML as well. One of the things that I've found that works well is to use a program like Toast Titanium to make music DVDs (video DVDs with music). If you want to burn DVD-a disks that can be done fairly easily as well depending on the operating system you use, but there is nothing displayed during the playback. The nice thing with the DVD-video option is you can keep the DTS surround, and have the album art displayed on the screen if you've done the bypass work. I haven't yet, but it is on the list.
If you've got a bunch of high resolution audio files like I do, you can take advantage of the 5.1 surroundsound capability in the ML system. The sound is fantastic for a factory stereo, and the 5.1 mixed disks aren't expensive at this point ($12-20 through Amazon), although the offerings are limited. The music sounds much more "live" coming from the lossless DVD-a formats.
If you guys are interested on how to create these disks, let me know and I'll create a How-To. So far I've got a couple of disks that came from high-rate MP3's that have over 8 hours of audio on a SL DVD. The DL DVD experiment contains much more.
