Default Side Rearview Mirror Auto Tilt

I am aware that the mechanism behind the side mirrors that automatically tilts in reverse goes bad. I was wondering if this was common in all of the 3rd Gen GS's or is it less of a problem with '08+ larger signaled mirrors?

I'm not sure but one of my family members has an 04 LS430 and her passenger side mirror stopped tilting properly. We replaced it and it is now good as new.

You kind of have to expect these issues as they are constantly tilting down when the car is in reverse. There are mechanisms that will wear out after a while. YMMV.

The good old plastic gears craziness. It's funny because people are intensely interested and hotly discussing metal vs plastic gear cheapness even in stuff like kitchen mixers. They just don't make gears like they used to!

I switched mine off, so they won't wear out. I don't miss it at all. I would switch off the turning headlights too if I could. Maybe even the steering wheel retract.
Oh and I dislike the dimming rear view mirrors, is there a way of leaving them bright at night?

Not sure about your UK GS.

For the US GS, the AFS and dimming rear view mirror can be switched off.

Well U don't use it at all so even if they wear out U won't notice it. I too switch it off, no more tilt and I do miss it. Have to look harder down to see the curve. I'm thinking of getting a curve mirror stick on but I don't want a whole round mirror and this keep me hinting.

There is an actual OFF? where? Is there a constant ON? Or maybe adjust it's sensitivity?

I still have the car under warranty from dealer so I can get it checked out.

For the OP, its common on all models that have it... But it has become more prevalent in the most recent models. Still not a high failure rate, but more than the old 430's 01-04.

Thanks guys. I think I'll leave it ON. The "AFS off" light is a bit annoying.
