08 GS 350, Been about 2 weeks after recall valve spring replacement done. Car is starting to exhibit noise more than before, plus smoke come out of engine with a burning smell at times

Dropping off at dealer tomorrow, without appointment, i expect them to resolve this. if not trading it in for a German auto and calling it a day. This was one of those times "IF NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT ".

Im sure they will fix it, but just wondering what else it may have been damaged as result

know wonder they give 1500 toward purchase of new Lexus

Had the VSR done on my 07 GS350 last month. Haven't noticed any difference in the idle or performance. I did notice a slight drop in gas mileage. Was averaging around 28.5 mpg city/highway and now averaging around 27mpg. I did get the letter and $1500 certificate. Too bad it expires in a year.

As the weather gets colder, the gas mileage will be reduced.
Just curious you said 28.5 mpg, is that number from the mileage gauge or your measurement?
I don't get 28.5 anymore. The best one I saw from my gauge is 27.0.
Still waiting to do the VSR.

How long does the VSR last before we can get it fix? 1-year, 2-years etc. Some people may never have a problem without the VSR.

What German car would you like to get? For the same features, the price will be expensive.

Ok, thanks to all those who replied. Are there any mechanice types out there who might know if the vsr could cause the gas mileage to go down? I mean we are talking about 7mpg! Does anyone have any suggestions who at Lexus may be able to help if my service advisor can't? Thanks again.

i think would downgrade to Mercedes C 350 Sport, My car in shop as i'm writing this, so will see what they say, I have a good dealership, no appointment gave me loaner 2010 RX 350.

Your right would not get the same features, but keeping payments close to what have is more important. Hopefully i wont have to go that route as i enjoy my GS

I would like to think that anything mechanically wrong that would cause a huge drop in fuel efficiency would result in a check engine light. Anything wrong with the valves would certainly cause random misfires that would result in codes quite quickly.

Ok back from dealer, Tech said ......
The VSR is major work and oil gets all over the place, the smell and smoke i see is from burn off. He indicated it wold go away after 100 miles. I mentioned i have put on 1500 miles since the VSR. Anyway No problem found other than burn off, engine tapping is normal

OMG, I'm glad I'm not the only one. The rough idling I have now is ridiculous! And the car sounds like a true diesel truck. It's so loud now while I'm sitting at a light or whenever. And the knocking noise...all considerably worse than before the work was done.

Got my letter yesterday...I think I am going to take my chances with this one and only get it done if absolutely necessary.

There is no expiration date on the recall so Im good.

I still argue the principle. My car is barely 2-years old and they knew about the valve springs years ago.
Since they knew about this, I feel that I got played for sure. They knew what was sold to me.

Try running a level 2 diagnostic on the flux capacitor.

The number was from the mileage gauge. I took a trip that was about 700 miles about two weeks before I had the VSR done. I just got back from the exact same trip this past weekend. and noticed the difference in gas mileage. Also gas receipts confirmed this.
