Thoughts After Valve Spring Recall Done (pics added)
Got the car back. It seems no worse nor better....which is a good thing cause I wasn't having any problems. There is a road to my house where I usually hit 80-90 mph, it reminds me of the entrance to the batcave with all the over-hanging trees....I was afraid to punch it with the fresh repair. Maybe tomorrow.
That new car smell and feel are now gone. It feels older now. I have a hint of oil smell. That freshness seems to be missing. Something just isn't right.

Well, it wasn't a full fledged threat. He sort of intimated that if I refuse and something goes wrong that wouldn't be a good thing.
The other reason I did it was one of my wheels is in the shop being resealed. So I'm driving around with 3 custom wheels and one stock wheel. Not something I dig. Now the car is in the shop and my wheel should be ready tomorrow. The two birds with one stone thing.

I have my scheduled to the mid December and would like to know if anybody had it done @ Lexus of Tampa Bay (Dale Mabry location). Any good or bad experience.

I guess I will update this thread instead of this one?
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...acement-5.html
We need one thread not a bunch of them.
I was fortunate enough today to be shown how the Valve Spring Recall work is done in a LS and a GS.
. I got to speak to multiple techs and were shown multiple cars with the engines open with visible valve springs. I took a couple of pics from the camera phone but they might not be great.
It was really eye-opening to talk to these guys and see how tedious this work is for a part that likely won't fail b/c Lexus is taking a precautionary step. The good news is the techs are getting better at the the job so they can fix more cars.
Failure rates are much higher on the V-8 then the V-6, the V-6 failure rate is nearly non-existent. It was amazing to see these expensive engines opened up and seeing their 'guts" so to speak. What is VERY impressive is how clean these engines are inside, even after 60,000 miles. They all looked brand spanking new.
I still have not gotten mine done but I guess I will soon. No worries on my end.
Yes they fill your tank up but don't go in with 0 gas where the car cannot be driven out of the service bay cause you have no gas. Yes that did happen

Also its okay to go in with a 1/4 tank or so knowing they will fill it up but don't be a classless cheap *** and go in with a car so empty on gas, the car won't start or drive b/c you used ALL THE GAS UP so you can get a refill and they got to push the car to the gas tank.
Yes, that did happen.

my range showed 8 miles but the car still run, but i guess i am cheap *** in mike's eyes from now on

.can you post the pics? would love to see it
The burnt oil smell is dissipating so it must have been due to spillage.
Also forgot to mention they did fill up my gas tank. The car is starting to feel like it did prior to the work. I'm pleased.

Okay this is a GS 350 taken apart...if you look you can see the valve springs, I took pics on the right side of the engine....20 of the buggers! They have to compress air to open something so the engine doesn't fall down.
Its pretty amazing to be honest. This particular dealer has seen no V-6 failures, only V-8 ones. The guys are amazed Lexus decided to fix all these engines though the problem is extremely rare. At first it was taking a couple of days to figure out but now most techs are much much faster.
Thanks to VVTi for the tour and all the cool techs explaining things to me.
I have to say I am 100% confident in this procedure and the job these guys are doing.
The first pic shows the right side with all the springs inside.
The second pic is from the front of the engine.
The last pic is a box of old springs. They got springs for days!
