Default Fixed Broken Folding Mirror >PIX< UPDATE

A while back someone busted my mirror or it just finally just gave and would not fold in anymore. Turned out it was a stripped plastic gear, which is in the following thread

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...posed-pix.html

Well i finally got around to fixing the damn thing. I found a used replacement fixture of which i only payed 50 bux shipped to my house. Took it all apart then took apart the mirror while it was fixed on the car because taking of the inner door panel was unnecessary. The mirror also use to sound real loud when it did fold in so i switched all the gears and the electric motor as well. All said and done it works perfect now and is totally quite. LOVE IT!!! I'm gonna start folding them in everytime i park.

and finally...well besides a dirty *** car...but the mirror folded in..havent been able to do in a few months

Damn..i wonder if mine work. I never fold them in. I should try it to see if they're broken or not since i'm still under warranty.

It would be cool if we could get some metal ones fabricated.

haha if you never use it, chances are it's working

i am more worried about the tilt down function though

good thread and pics! for the pic with the two gears together, which one is new, which one is used? did you notice any difference / wear?

That's all well and good, but what if we don't have a notebook with a hot girl on the screen in our garage for inspiration?

Seriously though, nice documentation. I'm with Henry on concerns about the tilt down function. Mine definitely do not return to their normal position all of the time.

Maybe its a good think it was a plastic part, because with a good bump i would rather the single plastic gear break than a hinge or something. But they should sell this gear so that it could be replaced by itself instead of buying the whole mirror assembly. As for the tilt feature. I wonder if it has to do with the electrical relay or something...my passenger mirror dosent tilt maybe 5 percent of the time...and that 5 percent happens when i really need them. Now that sux!!

the tilt problem has to do with plastic gear too. been documented here and there a few times. this is a problem across all lexus models

Oh yea. The black gear above is the new one. besides the color difference, the old white one was not as clean cut as the newer part as in the groves.

One thing that may have been overlooked on the original thread (post 13):

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...posed-pix.html

twylie posted a website to a guy who can possible make any replacement gears out of plastic:

http://www.odometergears.com/ford.html

This could be a good source, if he can make replacement gears for the folding mech and/or tilting mech for our side view mirrors.

http://www.odometergears.com/faq.html

pretty cool . I have only used mine a couple of times. Once when I tried hitting max speed in the car I folded them in for better aero. I figured I would see the cops in the rear view mirror anyway >LOL
