I was driving today and decided to switch from listening to XM to listening to my iPod unit. I pressed the disc button, and it went to the DVD changer. I pressed it again to activate the CD changer mode, and it would not activate. I also tried to do it by voice command and that didn't work either.
Did you check to make sure your ipod is well connected and that the ipod screen displays the Vais logo?
I did check the iPod. I don't think the iPod ever displayed the Vais logo - it usually just displays that it is connected to an ipod accessory a gray screen with no menu.
However right now the iPod is just displaying the regular iPod menu screen which suggests that the iPod does not think it is connected to the Vais.
Try disconnecting the vais unit from the harness and then plugging it back in after 30 seconds or so. Could be that the unit is locked and can't reset while the car is supplying some level of power to it.
If that doesn't work just try leaving it disconnected and seeing if the head unit works properly without it. At least you can determine if the unit is fubar or not this way.
With my GROM unit, I locked it up trying a firmware update and this solved the issue for me.
seems like it's the viastech unit got stuck in a state and not able to engage with the head unit. go through the initialization process again on the vaistech unit, that should work. happened once on someone's car before, never seen anything else like it again
Thanks guys. I will try using it with my iphone. If that doesn't work, I will take it to dealer when I get back to Florida. Dealer sold and installed the unit.
I have the same issue with my iPhone. Cannot put the headunit in CD-changer mode which is where the Vais iPod controls are.
But here's another odd thing. In any of the radio modes (FM or Sat radio) if I start playing a song using my iPod's controls, it will play through the head-unit and cut out the existing satellite radio signal. Then to get the XM back, I have to disconnect the iPod.
It is Vaistech. I called them to descive the issue, and they said the same thing you said. They said it needs to be rebooted and re-initialized. They suggested I go to the dealer that installed it and ask them to do it.

yeah seems like the two vaistech units somehow got confused between each other. a reboot should do it, don't worry
does anyone get the Vias logo on their iPod? I never have...no issues with mine but now that I see that post from Dave my wife's Acura displays the Acura logo when its connected in her car. Is ours supposed to also??
