Too much shiny chrome crap on a car makes it look south of the border IMO. I'd rather have LESS chrome than what the GS has. I'm not into shiny chrome wheels either though. Everybody has different taste.
The GS was never meant to look stealthy. It has grace, finesse, tamed sportiness and class to the look and that's why Lexus decided to go with that much OEM chrome. It competes with the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-series, both cars that also carry class.
In my opinion, the Lexus IS is a sporty looking car that instead goes well without chrome. Like you said though, everyone has their own taste.

I really don't follow what lexus had planned for the vehicle I purchased. I'm sure they didn't intend the car to have 20" staggered wheels with air suspension, but I still decided to do that to the vehicle I purchased. I don't think it really matters what anybody thinks their original intention of the vehicle was. That really has zero impact on the decisions I make to modify the looks of my car.
