Default GS 350 Alarm

Guys, how does the GS alarm work? Someone broke the from passenger glass to steal my GPS and iPod. When I got to the car, the alarm was not going off.

Is our alarm passive?...only when they try to start the car or steal the radio?

Thank God car was not damaged...besides a few nicks on the paint.

IXI187IXI, thanks...

OK, so most likely they broke the window and unlocked the door from the inside? My middle console was open so they had to open my door to gain access.

I assume with this, the alarm will not go off.

Really wish our NAVI had traffic info on it...that is why I use a GPS ...to keep me from getting snarled in traffic between work and home.

if they unlock the door or open the door, the alarm will go off. i know so because one day i had my window half way down and not realizing my car alarm was on, i reached in an unlocked the door because it wasnt picking up my key fob. as soon as i unlocked the door, the alarm went off.

Lexus should really put a glass breakage sensor in there.

At first I thought the same, but in this case would it have made a difference? Seems to be a grab and go.

I am not sure if my alarm sounded or not as by the time I got there no alarm was sounding. The light on my key fob was blinking, however.

I wonder if the alarm did go off but shut off after a few minutes?

lexus factory alarm is really poor, imho. if you want glass sensor and other sensors, you really need to get an aftermarket alarm system. factory just won't cut it.

I agree, along with a glass sensor, they need a tilt sensor too.

prob that was the case.. the alarm's supposed to go off when the door or trunk was opened, but what can you do if no one's really around the car? sorry to hear about your loss, just gotta be extra careful these days.. i heard numerous cases of portable GPS's getting stolen. don't give them a chance to target your car..

Yeah, was broken into at work in broad daylight...there are even security trucks roaming around. Since this was a covered ramp with security, I thought it was safe to just leave the GPS up...how wrong I was.

I've had my ipod stolen from my mid console too. These days, criminals are just becoming more slick.
