Default Windshield pitting

I have driven 19,000 mostly highway miles on my '07 GS and although I have no rock chips in my windshield, when driving into the sun or approaching vehicles with headlights on at night, the very visible pitting in my entire windshield is very distracting. I never experienced this in another car. Does anyone else have this problem, and do you know the cause? Thanks.

same here, on all my lexus, gs400, sc430, is300, ls460l, and gs350. maybe it's my luck, but within 4 months of owning ls460l, cracked the windshield. my gs350? 9 months. i do tend to think lexus windshields are not as strong and durable these days. but that's just my speculations.

my m3 seems to have much stronger windshield. a big rock hit the windshield the other day, loud bang, and i didn't see any marks

Weak Lexus and Toyota windshields are a common complain among owners.

In addition to the windshield pitting, the front of my hood looks the same!

what about non-oem no name brand windshields? are they even worse?

anyway, these days, EVERY carmaker gets pitted windshields. bmw and porsche are no different.
google it.

My aunt, previous owner of my GS, lives on Cape Cod. She had to have the windshield replaced becasue wind and sand are a fact of life in that area. The replacement is an aftermarket, Pinkerton. When new, you couldn't tell the difference from OEM. However, because of the geographic locale, the Pinkerton windshield is due to be replaced soon as it to has sand blown pitting. Check with your insurance company, if the pitting is deemed a safety hazard, it may be covered. My insurance does and waives the deductable.

Windshield can get pitted at one go, if a sand truck passes you from the opposite direction. This happened to me twice with my 01 GS. Felt like driving through a sand storm. Annoying to have such damage when driving at sunrise or sunset or at rainy night, when the headlights of other cars have similar effect as low lying sun.
Btw, the windshield which was pitted by the sand truck, was a replacement OEM one, after the original got cracked by a stone hitting the exact edge of the screen.

The standard clear bra material is not approved for that application. Optical clarity is not there.

Lexus shields chip easy.

mine was pitted and scratched so I called gieco and they replaced it. Just tell them that you are getting alot of halos and you are concerned for you safety. they are cool. I love GEICO. I am hooked on them. Great service, and decent prices, imo.
