Default Tpms sensor ???

I have a question concerning my future situation. I'm about to buy a set of 08 OEM 18" WHEELS that still has the TPMS Sensor on it...if i put into my car...will my car have any codes pop up? Do i half to take the TPMS Sensors out of my original wheels and install to the 08' Wheels and take off the other TPMS Sensors? Is there a better solution to this issue? Thank you for your time....Thomas

somehow you need to get the codes from the new sensors. They may be printed on the side or base of the sensor. This means you will have to unmount the tire to check the sensor. However, you say OEM so maybe they can pull the corresponding codes from the ECU that the wheels are currently on. The codes will then have to be programmed into your ECU. You are allowed to have two sets of sensor programmed in. There is a switch underneath the glove compartment that toggles between the two sets. This is how most run winter tires and summer tread.

If you have Lexus do the code retrieval and reprogramming, expect to pay over two bills for this.

it would work, but you may have to adjust the level at which the tire pressure signals an alert to your dash to check the pressure. this is, of course, given that you're moving up in wheel & tire size (in your case i'm guessing from 17 - 18).

That will work. If for some reason you want to put your original rims back on, they won't have sensors anymore.

When/if you do get the sensors in the new wheels and have the tires mounted up, just follow the instructions in the manual for re-initallizing the TPMS system. It is as simple as pressing a button.......oh yeah, that's all you do is press a button.

Personally, I have two sets of rims. My original 17" GS rims I use in the winter with dedicated snow tires and I have a set of 18" rims that I use from March to November. Both have TPMS sensors in them so I don't have to transfer sensors twice a year. I just have to hit a different button each time I swap the tires.

i have a second set of OEM tpms installed on my wheels which has not been programmed yet. does this mean they need to unmount the tires to read the code as well? or this is not necessary for the OEM.. reason i ask, they don't install 20" tires. also, can this be done in any place other than the dealership?

I think on the newer TPMS, they can scan for the serial number.

no we have a reader for that...you let some air out of the tire and then
hold the device up to it and it will show the ID code.

....any decent shop should have one.
