I own a 2nd gen GS and just recently purchased an 2008 3rd gen GS. The dealership was by a busy freeway and I made the mistake of not listening closely to the engine. Every, seriously Every GS 350 has this knocking noise which sounds like a bad valve when at idle after warming up. It is extremely bothersome. The dealer engineers are fully aware and do nothing. Next time if I hear this noise, will not buy. Buyer beware...

 

that is the direct injection, it is normal, most of us dont mind it, I think you will get used to it after a while, it is noticeable because the car is so quiet, once you get a few rattles you will never worry about that clicking noise...

 

yeah, it's the direct injection. the dealership tech can't do anything anyway, unless you don't want the direct injection for power which makes it into a es350. i never really notice the ticking anyway, my windows are always closed

 

I wouldnt say its extremely bothersome, but I guess some GS is louder than others, maybe your is really loud.

Yep! I'll gladly take the +hp and fuel efficiency for a noise you have to turn down the music all the way to hear.

 

i didn't even notice it until my friend mentioned it to me first. i guess it didn't really bother me that much..

haha.. i have it, many others have it.. hopefully not for him..

 

It does sound like a bad valve(s), but what sounds good is the "WHOOSH" when you floor it! Sounds stronger than my GS400!
