3rd gen aftermarket exhaust
Hello CL!
I am new hear and am so excited to be a part of an online community which is so passionate about the automobiles they own.
I have tried reading every thread I could to address my question without posting this but it seems this may be the best way to get my question answered.
I recently purchased a 2006 GS430 Blk/Tan Fully loaded
I am looking for an exhaust for my GS and I really want something I am going to be happy with.
Here is what I am looking for:
Something deep and throaty (almost like american muscle)
an exhaust you really only hear and feel when you step on the throttle hard.
I seem to like everything that is American made like MagnaFlow and Borla.
I hear JDM is the way to go but i just don't like the sound. = \
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

First of all welcome to CL, I think you should check out the Tanabe Medallion Exhaust, there are many members here that have those exhaust. I think they are great and you only hear it when you step on the gas. The other brand that you can take a look at is the HKS but they tend to be louder.......
I would also recommend sticking with the tanabe exhaust. They are deep and throaty. I will warn you that the borla or magnaflow will be much louder than the tanabe. Cool for a while, then it can really get annoying. I had an agressive system on my G35 and it sounded like a worked Nismo Z, but would drone like you couldnt believe. I am assuming you want the exhaust because of the electric car sound of the 3GS. Its needs a little sound, but alot can be annoying
ill agree with the OP and say go with the Magnaflow or Borla. I am going to have a custom dual exhaust done really soon here and I am going with Magnaflow. If you are not in a rush I will post up once I am done and some sound videos. I finally found a place that can give me everything I am looking for so now I just have to find the time.
First off thanks for the help!
When i say loud i don't mean I want a quiet car just not that ALL EXHAUST sound...i don't mind hearing the V8 at all....I just don't want to sound like aloud *** Civic.
That being said, Tanabe still?

Coming from a 350z...the tanabe sounds has a rich sound that doesnt sound like a Civic in vtec.
I choose the tanabe because of all the rants about this exhaust, but i wish it could be even more subtle. After all i am coming from a Z that had the tuner look and sound.

my bro just got Tanabe on his GS.
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... after i see/hear it, i'm totally in love with it.
it has a serious deep tone around 2000~2500 RPM.
the tone is reduced signifiantly and very silent like stock-muffler outside that range.
if you looking for a sporty and weight reduction muffler, while maintaning the reasonable noise and luxury feeling, i think the tanabe is the best choice here.
i must say HKS is very good too, and it's so good that lexus uses most of their product on IS-F. but then, the muffler is way too loud for me.
that muffler gives you more like racing feeling, rather than luxury/sporty feeling
Tom's muffler is good, but i wouldn't say the best, while it's the most expensive among all.
Tom's muffler do improve performance of the car, but it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo quiet that it makes u feel you didn't change the muffler at all. especially they black out the silencer, from a distance, u really don't feel anything in terms of looking.
all other brands... hum... no comment. not familiar with them at all.

You are not going to get any real gains out of an exhaust on this car. Maybe 2-4 hp . Remeber that the Tanabe medallion is really only an axle back system. It doesnt even make it all the up to the cats. That feature is what keeps the car quiet even with an exhaust. I would just expect to give the car a more hardcore kind of sound. ess of the Lexus electric car sound
