I've got a 06 GS430 and I average about 23-25mpg with about 70% hwy driving and 30% city on shell 93 octane. Insurance on my car is about $70-$75 a month full coverage in St. Louis, MO. I love the torque of the V8. The V6 300 just doesn't cut it for me. The 350 has about the same horsepower as the 430 but I still like the acceleration of the 430 more. I think the 430 motor is one of the most solid and reliable motors that Toyota/Lexus has put out so far IMHO. I'm a Senior Lexus Technician by the way.

if you ask me, this is what i think. the 430 is such an old tech, from 2001. the engine is old, gas mileage isn't that good, and it's not as powerful compared to today's v8 engines

price wise i am sure the gs430 is very good price. i agree with the tq on the 4.3L v8, i had gs400 and sc430 before so i know. but if you talk about fast the gs350 is just as fast if not faster. only thing you miss is the tq. the 350 has much better gas mileage (mix driving and i am getting over 26mpg easily). i don't know the difference but of course the 430 insurance will likely be more than the 350.

Insurance is dependent on the insurance company, the coverages you elect and usually your driving record. What I pay for insurance here in CA for my GS will be a lot different than what you're paying in your area. Your best bet is to get an individual quote from different ins. companies and make comparisons to which will give you the best value.

You're definitely right, the newer motors are always gonna be faster and have better MPG due to the improving technology. I just think the new direct injected motors need a bit more work. I stand behind the 4.3 motor because we never saw problems with it. " If it ain't broke, why fix it? " What Toyota/Lexus did was totally redesigned their engine line. It's a completely different beast. What we see come into the shop and the new TSBs that come out every day makes us scratch our heads. I won't go into detail on what they are. PM me if you want to know. With that being said, it's a new motor and it's gonna have bugs. There's potential in this new motor, direct injection does wonders.

MPG is pretty comparable to the IS350 and what I am getting in the GS430 I just got a month ago. Its well balanced IMO. A little more power could never hurt. Its preference. I have had many V8 cars and the IS350 was a great contender with that engine. MPG was pretty good. Could have been better if I was easier on the car. There is always going to bigger, better, faster....

Since you are not comparing the GS350 & GS460 then I say get the GS430 over the GS300. Isnt the motor in the GS300 the engine that Lexus had some trouble with? I know there was one that they where doing lots of rebuilds on. I was in the Lexus shop more frequently when I was younger and they had a specific tech there that did nothing but the rebuilds. I cant recall what it was from but wasnt something minor. I though this was why they had replaced the motor?

I think you can get a pretty good deal on a CPO GS430 and call it a day in this market. That was why I went used for the first time instead of leasing.
