I have the basic audio setup in my '06 GS300 AWD. I was told the base system is made by ELS. Is this correct? I'm not impressed with the system, in fact, I believe the system in my old Acura CL 3.0 sounded better, in my opinion.
Any recommendations for a better head unit with a line out for interface with most non-iPod MP3 players (I use a SanDisk Sansa View)?
A better head unit? Isn't everything integrated into the head unit though? Like climate, trip info, etc. I don't think you can swap it out that easily and even if you could, it would ruin the clean look. Perhaps adding some aftermarket amps with a set of new speakers coupled with an external output device like a cleansweep or something.
Out of interest how did you do the mods? Where did you put the amps, where did you take the feeds from and get the power supply from? Where did you put the subs?
All,
Thanks for your recommendations. I believe they are on point. For my taste, the bottom (bass) is about right, but the mid-range and treble just doesn't sound crisp. Perhaps an amp, as suggested & improved speakers will do the trick.
Here is a very detailed explanation of an easy sub/amp upgrade that a few of us have done with our 3rd Gens.
mmmm....i was looking for a simple fix like switch out the ML and install aftermarket sub. i guess no one has done that yet. maybe i should try it out!
I gutted my system minus the headunit ( for control purposes ).
You get a Rockford Fosgate 360.2 DSP / X-over to interface with your head unit and send line out from the speaker level wires.
Then you get everything else to complete the system.
I have 2 Alpine V12 amps, 2 JL Audio 10W1's, 4 Rockford Fosgate Power Series components ( front / rear ), and a 2 Farad capacitor.
My shiznit rocks,... total system power 960 watts.
I did the same thing in my RX300, regarding the 360.2, but in that case, have the Rockford Fosgate Power series coaxials, 2 JL Audio 8W3's ( those pound crazy hard ), and a R.Fosgate T500 and T600 amp, totalling 1100 watts, plus capacitor.
this keeps your car looking stock from a glance, but bring the thunder and lightning!
