Default New Wheels Rubbing When Care Is In Reverse And Turning!!!

Can someone help me with this problem i am having with my new wheels that were installed recently. I installed 20X8.5 wheels with 245/35/20 tires and when i put my car in reverse and turn the wheel to back out of my driveway, the tires hit the plastic covers on the inside of the front wheel wells. Can someone help with this possible remedy. I was thinking of heating the plastic with a heat gun and pushing the plastic in. It only does it in reverse and there is a small spot i can see where the tires rub. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest the heat method or cutting if it is a very small piece. I really like the rims and color match though. Sweet ride!

Not too crazy about the wheels. Anyways, you should have gone with a 245/30-20 tire. With that thicker profile tire, its prolly the main source of the rubbing.

I just don't understand why it would rub if you are going in reverse and not forward as well. Rubbing while turning might be normal since you do have thicker tires, just as long as your not rubbing while moving forward.

Well, people in Baltimore dance to a different tune. I wasnt going for the racing, tuned like look. But thanks for your opinion.

As far as the reverse issue, the tires only do it when the car is in reverse and turning. If i went with a 30 series tire i probably would have to worry about bending the wheels since Baltimore streets are not the smoothest roads around.

thanks

I have to agree man . you are using a tire that is WAY out os spec. Its a popular size, but the 245/30 or at least a 255/30 will kill the rubbing and you will be looking nice

What are the offsets on the wheel? And sounds like if it's just a small part rubbing I think heatgun would be the best solution

I get the same rubbing up front. I am going to consider the 245/30 tire size in the future. However, for an AWD with a staggered setup I need to ensure I get a 0% difference rolling diameter.

you can always consider 245/30 front and 285/25 rear. if you can stand the sidewall of 245/30, then 285/25 is just the same thing

but as i have said before, these kind of rubbing is ok. you are rubbing the front and rear part of the wheel well plastic. you are going slow anyway

i had the same issue, heat up the plastic and indent it in, does the trick....i ran 245 45 18 to have a more cushiony ride over the potholes i ride on...about the same overall diameter as yours, when turned like 30 degrees to one side it rubs at the back of the wheel well

You are correct in this happens in reverse only. I had the same issue on my car. People look at your car when you put it in reverse and drive and where does the weight of the front shift? So yes this will happen in reverse!

Simply heat the section its rubbing. Its minor but you will see the spot and heat it quickly and push it in. This will do the trick for you!

And why the negative comments on the OP's rims? some people around here and there negative posts. I didn't read where the OP asked your opinion of their rims?? they asked for help on the problem not to be criticized if you don't care for that style. You know who you are!

Good luck with the fix and all that matters is that you like the look of your car! Good thing is you can fix this with out getting new tires!

Happy Friday

I noticed on most tire mfg. web sites that 285/30/20 is rated for a nominal wheel width of 10" (9.5-10.5" range). However, most if not all tire mfgs. rate the 285/25/20 tires to be used on 10.5" wheel widths only? Why is that, it doesn't make sense?
