Brakes "Snap" Sound
The next time the sound occurs is when I shift the car to drive, and apply the brakes after I've started moving forward.
The snap sound only occurs when I apply the brakes for the first time traveling in reverse, and the first time moving forward.
It sounds as though this is the result of the pads getting pulled in opposite directions when I apply the brakes for the first time in either drive or reverse.
Anyone else experience this? I just want to know if this is normal.
I have an "06 GS 430 that does the same thing backing out of the garage in the morning except that all four calipers are doing it. The Lexus techs call it "brake slap" and it is caused by the pads sliding front to back or back to front in the calipers when changing vehicle direction and applying the brakes for the first time. The noise is not caused by the pads contacting the face of the rotors.
I had the problem fixed under warranty but it has since returned after changing out the front pads for the low dust versions. Now that my driver side outside mirror has died, I will take it in for a mirror motor replacement and to get those loose pads fixed again.
