Default Another great Lexus experience.. sort of..

This post is related to my RX300 but I the GS board is where I live so I posted here because it applies to all Lexus vehicles in general.. I recently made our trip the the Blue Ridge Boxster Summit (www.brbs.org) of which I am a planner and need to haul a lot of stuff too, so I took our 2001 RX. About half way there the tranny completely failed.. The drivetrain warranty is 6yrs/70000mi. I was good on the time frame but had 70340 miles on the car. The car ended up at Lexus of Knoxville TN for the week for the $3900 repair. I called 800-25-lexus to see if they would stand behind their product and cover the repair.. They opend a file and said they would call back. 2days later they did and said they would work with the dealer and call me back again once the details were worked out. I get to the realership to pickup the RX this week and they had not called me or the dealer back yet so we both called them. I probably expressed a bit more anger with them than the dealer did and also gave them a 3 out of 10 on the survey following the discussion with the rep for making me stand around the dealership for an hour when I was trying to get home to cinci.. This should have been taken care of prior to me getting there as they had a full week to do so. In the end though, Lexus did cover the full repair cost so they will maintain me as a loyal cusomer . I'm considering calling them to cover the cost of my Ford Explorer rental for the week ($350) since they were closed when the car was towed to the dealer, but I think I'll let that slide since they covered the tranny that was 'technically' out of warranty.

Lexus actually replaced the engine in my old RX300 at 80k miles and I didn't pay a dime!

Great story, thank you for sharing!

O/T Those rims in your sig are GS430 rims? Thought they're the 5-spoke 18"s?

I love Lexus service. I bought one of the first 2GS (a red 1998 GS300 in Oct 1997). I got the portable phone with it, which I used several times a day still and will do until I order a red 2008 GS350 this fall. I love the phone (analog though it may be) because of the great (for a pre-Bluetooth) interface.

But it has literally broken down and been repaired by Lexus for free on 15 different occasions over an 8 year period, which means it was way, way out of warantee most of the time. And, they always gave me a free Lexus loaner to drive each of the 15 times.

It has not been broken for a while now, so I think 15 will be the limit, and, even if I was going to keep the car, they are turning off analog service in the U.S. in Feb of next year.

Just curious, what kind of maintenance ie. transmission fluid changes have been done on the car? what does the manual say about how often transmission fluid should be drained and replaced?
