Option lists are out, but are available to a selected few only (read Corporate employees doing Special Orders).
Prices won't be released until late summer or early fall.
So when can an average Joe order his 2008 GS350? I can't see how one could order it without having a list of options, so one knows what is available to choose.
For example, I want what I think of as a "fully-loaded" red 2008 GS350, but I want the radar cruise control option, which frequently doesn't show up as available in some areas, and I do NOT want run-flat tires.
The "Average Joe" can Special Order 2008 GS when the pricing comes out in late Summer or early Fall.
Otherwise, there is no specified way a dealer can order a car without providing prices (for their business' sake as well as the customer's).
Speaking months, rather than seasons, which different people mentally think of as different months, e.g., I think of now being summer since it's June, but it's actually still spring:
1. What month can orders be placed for a 2008 GS350?
2. Will early orders all go for MSRP or what?
3. In what month will 2008 GS350s likely start showing up at the dealer here in CA?
4. I'd like the radar cruise control, which normally doesn't show up as a option for CA customers in the build-your-own Lexus on the website but is a listed option and does appear if you are in other states. The question is what would asking for that as part of the order likely do to the arrival date of my order?

Weird, I got mine with radar cruise control in San Diego, the car was waiting for me in the showroom, no special order...
Laser cruise is part of the Pre-collision System, that has to be a special order. TimeToy, sounds like someone special ordered and then backed out of the deal and you got lucky

So, one person's theory is that #4 must be special ordered. Any one else have thoughts on the other 3 questions?
I went my dealer today and asked about ordering an 08 GS. I was told I could order with a $500 refundable deposit and it would arrive in October. Pricing is not set yet.
Does this sound reasonable? If we can't agree on final price when it comes out then I suppose I ask for my deposit back? This way I guess get exactly what I want, but will probably pay a little more.
I asked, and that's what I was told. I was not ready to order since I am booking an extended test drive when I have more time. I really like the car but am not too crazy about headroom and the bump in the footwell for the AWD. I want to make sure those things that bug me initially won't make won't become major irritants.
We'll see if what they say is true in a couple of weeks.
