Default Rattle Near Nav Screen

A week ago, I took my GS 350 in for service and addressed a rattle issue near the passenger speaker grill on the dashboard.

They were able to get rid of that rattle, but it seems that a new rattle has popped up as a result of them removing my dash. This new rattle goes away when I apply pressure to the gray frame that surrounds the navigation screen.

Anyone have the same rattle? Can I get rid of it myself without having to take my car to the dealership again?

I have heard the same rattle - but only occasionally. No idea how to make it go away for good - I usually just smack the side of gray leather surrounding the nav system and it quiets down for a while.

I was able to pinpoint this rattle better. It sounds like a ticking noise. When I apply pressure to the area above the nav screen, between the two A/C vents, the rattle goes away.

I'm taking it back to the dealership on Friday. Hope they will give me a loaner vehicle.

To fix the Nav rattle I took a small piece of paper and stuffed it between the silver frame around the Nav and the dash in the top left corner. It took a couple of different strategically located pieces of paper. Let the paper stick out until you find the rattle point ant then stuff it all the way until it is no longer visible.

Rattles are one thing I really didn't want to hear about with a Lexus and especially a 50 Grand one. Until there are better reports on the fit and finish, I think I'll hold off on any move on ordering one. I have enough rattles with my present car and don't want to move up if I'm going to have grief. Too many posts, here and on other forums with regards to rattles.

The paper method works. Just stick a small piece of cardboard between the A/C vents and the silver frame.

I used a small thin piece of black cardboard and it's hardly visible. Instead of the A/C vent piece rubbing on the nav unit, it rubs on the cardboard. Although, I'll probably need to add another piece because I can hear the two pieces of plastic come in contact on rare occasions.

Just make sure to insert it somewhere above the silver frame so that the paper is less visible.

That's terrible to think folks have to use paper and cardboard to stop the rattles, it's almost sad. If the problem is the metal casing around the Nav why doesn't Lexus fix that. I agree it's better than tearing apart the whole dash but still shouldn't have to resort to stuffing paper to correct the rattles.

Anyone have a copy of this TSB that they could post? I wonder if it affects just the 2006 models or the 2007 models as well?

i called lexus and asked them to look up any service bulletins and they said that werent any. they used my VIN to look the info up. how do i find these TSBs? i found some pay sites but i didnt want to pay for them. do i need the TSBs to get service? can i just walk in there and say my dash ticks during certain weather conditions and bumps? what if they cant dupicate the ticking sound? are they going to give my car back and say we didnt hear anything so we cant fix something we cant hear?
