Just installed new tires (Khumo Ecsta ASX). Solved my vibe problem. Car is perfectly smooth and much quieter than before. Very happy.
On another topic, I went to the Lexus dealer for an oil filter. He had to look up my VIN to determine the correct filter (?). When I changed it, the filter I removed from the car was about 3/4" shorter than the new one. It went back together fine. I hope it's fine....any thoughts? The previous change was done by the Toyota dealer. I'm wondering who used the wrong filter. Hmmm.
FYI...the part number of then new filter is 04152-YZZA3

My mistake the avalon filter is shorter part # 04152-31090.The filter for the 3GR is longer part # 04152-YZZA3.Most likely the Toyota dealer used the avalon oil filter because thats what they had in stock, they dont stock the correct filter for your Lexus. On the Castrol syntec that I suggested the only place that sells the euro blend kind that says made in germany on the back is autozone.Toyota issued a bulletin around summer of 06 to all dealers about using a 0w30 weight oil. They were getting the advertised gas mileage on the newer models with this oil.BMW,Porsche and Mercedes approves the euro blend syntec for all their models, they are doing oil changes at 5k miles.
I had serious issues with the advans at around 9k miles. They were louder than my Toyota 4x4.I got Michelins and they are very smooth and quiet.I got that same vibe issue when you let off the gas.I got a feeling this is a driveline related issue.
3GRFSE - What type of Michelins that you've got? Could you also recommend a good tire shop in N. Scottsdale area?
newflamenc The tires are michelin pilot HXMXM4 225-50-17. I did all the mounting and balancing myself.I might be able to get a decent price on these tires.I have had some good and bad experiences (mostly good) from the discount store on scottsdale road before you get to shea if you were heading south.Let me know if you need help.
New to the board after buying my first Lexus. I bought a used 06 GS300, 15k mi with Nav, ML, Park assist, etc. Here are my two questions:
1. Vibration. Car runs smooth as silk. But, when cruising at 70 - 75 mph and ease off the gas to coast, there's a noticeable shimmy. Back on the gas, and it goes away. It's not in the steering wheel so much as in the chassis (seat of you pants feel). I stopped by the nearest Lexus Dealership (60 miles away) and they test drove it. Said it was out-of-round tires. Car has Yoko Advans with 15k on them, but still plenty of tread. I would think a bad tire, or two would cause vibration all the time, not just when gently lifting off the gas at cruising speed. Any thoughts?
2. Ticking. Was at the ticket booth at the airport yesterday, car in gear sitting still. I could hear a distinct ticking sound. In neutral, can't hear it. Repeated it once I got to my garage last night. Same thing. Oil is clean and level is good. Any thoughts?
Overall, I love the car...although the sound quality via FM isn't what I would have expected through a ML sound system. CD's sound great.
Anyway...I'm glad to be a member here and appreciate your support.

HOLY CRAP! sorry to say but I'm glad to here you say this now i know I'm not crazy. this same exact thing happened to me. i took my car not to Lexus but to a tire shop in the area and talk with the wheel guy and he showed me that my tires (same Yoko's you have) were falling apart and separating from the belt and that one of my wheels were out of round.long story short i got new wheels and tires and problem fixed. Oh the ticking went away dont know what i did.
