It's certainly better to connect an iPod with a direct electrical connection (AUX input) than to use an FM modulator or cassette coupler. But even the direct line connection is analog. There's no bitstream playback outputs from iPod.

Bluetooth has a rated data throughput of 721Kbps, definitely enough for audio streaming and even good enough for MPEG-4 video streaming.

And why make a holder just for the iPod when it can be placed anywhere in the car or even remain in a pocket or bag? That's the beauty of wireless technologies.
