Default Dynamic Cruise Control

Does anyone know how Dynamic Cruise Control is being bundled? For example, if the vehicle has Nav, will it have DCC or if it has PCS will it have DCC?

The dealer could not tell me, but he listed my options as...

Gs430 -

SR - SUNROOF
RF - REAR SPOILER
SS - POWER REAR SHADE
MV - NAV/MARK LEVINS
FL - RUN FLAT
RS - RAIN SENSING WIPERS
VS - VENTILATED SEATS

Then there's the standard features.
STANDARD
SMART ACCESS
VDIM - VEHICLE DYMANICS INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT
HEATED SEATS
IN DASH 6 CD
6 SPEED AT
PROJECTOR HID LIGHTS
KNEE AIRBAGS
WOOD STEERING WHEEL/SHIFT
18" WHEELS

Default Adaptive Cruise and PCS

The PCS (pre collision system) is based on the adaptive cruise control. Since you are in my region I can say that the PCS will be a special order mainly due to its price of $2,850. The GS430's in our region are all stickered at $58,234. They are coming with run flats, Mark Levinson and Nav, Rear spoiler, Moonroof, Rear Sunshade, and ventilated seats. If you are sure that you want the PCS then a special order takes a little less then 4 months to get here from Tahara, Japan.

One of the misconceptions about the millimeter radar unit behind the Lexus nose emblem is that it is active only when cruise control is on. It is a passive device and is always on guard or it would have little benefit. If cruise control is on the braking feature and engine power attenuation come into play before you have a panic stop. If cruise is turned off then the car is commited to the perceived collision and Brake Assist is in standby, the suspension goes to the firmest setting and the Seat belts pre-tighten.

I asked about the PCS/Pre Collision and the sales rep told me it had it. I will ask again.

Are you saying if it has PCS then it has the Dynamic Active Cruise?

Anyone remember the very first Knight Rider? Where KITT drives around the semi instead of braking behind it. Devon said the car was showing off. Will the GS show off this way?

Default PCS could evolve into CAS

In the GS430 you have the PCS option. (also an option on the GS3's) You already have EPS or electric power steering. If cruise is on you have 3 possible distance settings to select from. You have VDIM which along with PCS can make an instantaneous AVS damping adjustment. The millimeter radar is scanning in front of the car continuously. Add the sonar parking assist and let the sonar go further out say 10-12 feet. All you need now is pavement limit scanners and a little software to go with the GPS and a over arching Crash Avoidance System CPU and you get the Kitt car! I could have used that a couple of times coming home after too many tequilas!

I'm a little upset they didn't include it in the first batch. They are probably still working on it.

For cruising long distances, this feature cannot be beat.

Any idea if the cruise version will be available in the RX hybrid?

Default PCS continued

PCS is only an option on the LS430 Custom and Ultra Lux and the new GS series. I can count on my hand how many LS430's I've sold with PCS because in our region it requires a special order. The laser cruise works well also but is not all weather capable like the millimeter radar. We have had laser cruise available as an option on the RX330. Again I can count on my hand the number that I've delivered. Most people don't see the value of this feature. It not only works on trips but I've tried it in busy highway traffic and it just paces the car ahead at the distance you select and if the car moves out of the way it goes back up to your speed setting until it senses another car in the way. It will even brake and slow down to about 25MPH if needed which is the lower limit of cruise control. Alas, no laser cruise will be available on the ultra high tech RX400h. It may have been a space issue due to the difference below the bumper on the Hybrid or maybe the systems weren't compatible.
