Default Possible transmission issues help!!

2010 gs350 awd. For the past month I’ve been having lagging/slipping issues.
lags when going from all random gears. If car is stop at light than I gas it sometimes it takes a second to fully go. Or when driving going thru 3-4 gear it either lags or slips. No CEL. Car has been babied. I went to a place to drain flush and change tranny fluid but mechanic said changing it won’t do much of anything and suggested to go to a transmission place to get checked.
Car has 180k miles. What can I suggest to transmission place to do or check? Need car to be able to run good for maybe few more years.

The mechanic did not want you to do a transmission flush because that can damage your transmission. How can it damage you may ask? high mileage cars that have never had the transmission fluid replaced get thick and less viscocity, this damages the clutch discs inside of the transmission. That thicker viscocity actually helps give a worn transmission help. You fully drain that old thick fluid and replace it with thinner fluid can cause your transmission to slip badly right away.

My suggestion is take it to a shop or the dealer. have them do a drain and fill only, I wouldnt remove the transmission pan and I wouldnt replace the filter. They simply remove the drain plug and carefully pour it into a measuring container, whatever fluid that got drained 3-5 quarts usually, replace that with new toyota transmission WS fluid, add a tad bit extra for loss. Look at the condition of the drained fluid, if its black and smelly then that is a sign of a bad transmission. It should look maroon in color.

If the car is on a lift, I would suggest letting the car reach operating temps and while in the air, drive the car on manual mode and gently go through all the gears. Dont over do it, just make sure you get a few seconds of run time in each gear. Then as youre leaving the shop your first mile drive it gently, then drive it normally afterwards. If the transmission gets better wait 5,000 miles and do another drain and fill, do this 2 times and on the 3rd drop the pan and replace the filter and magnets. If the transmission gets worst, then I would leave it alone and drive the thing until the transmission craps out. Then buy a used one to replace it.

wow I truly appreciate your response. I’m going to do just that. My car has been great with no real troubles until this tranny issue. I hope to drive this car forever and a day. But I do know all good things come to an end. Just want to be able to squeeze a few more years out of it. Have you ever heard or dealt with this issue? Outcomes?
If need new transmission, do you suggest rebuilt or used , find a new one? Any possible site? What is avg price? Have a mom n pop shop or a brand name such as Aamco ? Thanks so much
