Transmission problems
I have a 2007 Lexus IS250 AWD. The car changes gears fine it's just that from 2nd->3rd gear I get a slight thump, a second after 3rd gear engages. It doesn't happen with any other gear or even going from 3rd->2nd. Only on the upshift.
I brought it to the dealer and that was a waste of time and money, paid $125 to have a mechanic go on a road test with me to hear the thump then he said the transmission is going without doing any other diagnostics and ofcourse they quoted me for a lexus rebuilt tranny at over $4K+almost $2K in labor. I asked them if a flush could be tried first, they said that could just kill the tranny and plus they don't have the fluid exchange machine at this particular dealership.
I contacted another dealership in the area and they do have the machine so I made an appointment to get a flush done this Friday. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated in case the transmission does fail. Thank you. Do I really need a new tranny? If I do should I get a low mileage used one or a rebuilt one from Lexus or have it rebuilt by AAMCO?

if your transmission is going a flush won't make any different, in fact it will make your transmission go even faster!
also, i would NEVER suggest you go to AAMCO, you should try google around....
I just noticed you're in NY, i had my Acura TL transmission built twice from 2 different shops and each lasted about 20k miles. my suggestion is go get a used low miles transmission.

the powertrain warranty is 72 months 70K miles....
I would go to another dealer for 2nd opinion before you get the transmission replaced....

So after diagnosis by the dealer they said that I have a slipping clutch and worn out tranny mounts. Quoted me 6K for the parts and labor. They refused to do any tranny flush for me because they feel it would make the issues worse and they would be held liable. Talked to the service manager and fought back to have them do it anyway and the liability would be mine but they remained adamant about it so I took my car.
