I've used the JBL speakers in the past for budget systems due to their high input sensitivity. Coupled with the mini amp and a solid mount they really sound great. I had this setup in a 2008 Ram with only stock replacements and I never missed a sub. It's been a while since I looked into aftermarket speakers so I'll definitely look into crescendo when I start tho. So far this is what I've done
That headunit is a clean install. Good work! I will show this thread my subwoofer build when it is done. Right now I have a skar audio sdr12 with an alpine mrv-m500 going at 500 RMS @2 OHMS. It is still in a small but ported box. I am planning to build a bigger box tuned low to achieve good output.
I found a headunit that can keep the factory subwoofer working
It's the Sony DSX-GS80. It has a direct subwoofer output (powered) because it has a 400w built in class D (efficient) amplifier. You wire channels 1 and 2 for the front and rear while reserving channel 3 and 4 to wire in parallel for the subwoofer to achieve a 2 ohm load.
