2002 GS430 front passenger window acting erratically
Hi everyone,
The front passenger window on our 2002 GS430 has been going up and down erratically. I could push the switch down or up and it may go down or up, or go up when pressed down, or down when pulled up.
I asked the dealer to check it out last time it was in for a dead battery. They claim there were no issues while in, so could not duplicate the issue. The issue had continued multiple times, so I took it upon myself to order a new driver's door master switch in hopes that would cure the problem. I installed the new part today and still have the same erratic electrical issue. The master control switch was not the issue. The only thing left would be a window motor correct? I would upload a video, but I do not see how.
Inside the switch is just a soft plastic mat (like under calculator buttons or a remote control for a tv) so that does not need cleaning like a actual metal to metal contact switch.
On the window motor itself you have a toothed wheel for pinch sensors and when you install a new window motor it must be trained/relearned it's home up position and it's home down position. I just did my driver window motor a few days ago as when it is freezing and super cold sometimes the window will not move.
Does your window go fully up or down on its own or just half way?
So I replaced the driver’s side master switch with a brand new oem part. The issue still persists. I now had planned on switching out the passenger front mpx door computer module, however now that I have the door apart, the unit that is in the car currently is different from the bed unit I bought to replace it. The new module was listed for a front passenger door, but the label and part numbers are different. The part number for the new unit is: 89222-30020 with “ED” in big letters above whereas the module in my car had a part number of: 89223-30020 and “EP” written in large letters above it.
I ended up removing the driver’s side door panel again to see which module is over there. Sure enough, the original driver’s side computer door module matches the new part. I have begun to have minor issues with this window too, so I’ll go ahead and switch it out. If it works, then I’ll order the correct part number for the other door, if it does not work, then it’s off to the Lexus dealer we go.
I had the same problem with my front passenger door also when I push up it would roll up and then go back down by itself. I took the door panel apart, cleaned the rail with wd-40 and it never gave me anymore problems for the last 9 months until now. So I didn’t have to go further into the electricals... just the mechanicals. Hope your problem is as simple as mine.
Happy to report that the driver's side door window is working flawlessly after replacing the driver's door computer module. I just ordered the correct part for the passenger side (make note for anyone else who needs this that the Lexus parts catalog has them listed backwards) door and hope to install it next week. One window down, one to go.
