Default What is this part called and what does it do?

Hey guys there is this part that's attached to my air intake of my 02 GS 300 and I'm not sure what it does. It has two black nozzles sticking out from the side of it but there aren't any hoses to attach to it. Could someone explain what the part is and what it does?

It's a VSV, vacuum switch valve.
Look at your vacuum diagram under the hood. that will tell you where the missing hoses go...

There aren't any hoses that aren't being used. Thank you for your reply.

I found some diagrams with where the hose might be located, and if I figure it out I'll post what was wrong.

The nozzle that is sticking out is supposed to be connected to the intake and the nozzle next to that is supposed to be connected to the vacuum hose.

Best I can tell from the picture, that is your purge solenoid, (a type of VSV) that allows fuel vapor from the tank to be pumped into your intake to optimize fuel economy. As someone stated above, one end goes to your intake near the throttle body, the other end comes from the fuel tank.

You probably have a slight gas smell and a check engine light on as you are missing a hose. See the earlier posts for the vacuum line diagram and get that thing connected!

I did end up getting the hose properly connected, however, I have a check engine line because of my catalytic converter. Although I'm not to worried about that because my mechanic said it's not affecting my car's performance or level of maintenance of I don't get it fixed. It's more of getting passed through the emissions in my state.

I did notice a better fuel economy from my car after I got the hoses connected. Although I'm debating could it be because I got the hoses connected or I started buying premium gas.
