My car continues to be a pain in the ***. When making a hard turn, say a u-turn either left or right, my car makes this weird noise. I can't exactly explain it, it's not a creaking, or a rattle, but it sounds maybe more like a popping. If anything, for those of you who watch Top Gear, it's the sound James May's Jensen made when he was on full lock in the British roadsters challenge (specific I know, but I just watched it). As for parts, the entire front suspension, and I mean everything, has been changed but the wheel bearings. I understand that that could be the culprit, but since it's happening on both sides. That would be that both sides need to be replaced? I just need an idea of what is happening. $3,000 and my car's suspension is still sounds like a piece of junk.
I had a similar problem with the front right making a single loud pop sound when I turned full lock and it turned out to be a bad wheel hub. Replaced that and the problem was gone.
I really hope it's not that, both sides at the same time and even though the car is an 02, I feel like 112k miles is to early to have to be doing $4000 worth of suspension work
no its a binding like noise that continues throughout the turn, only hard ones though such as a U-turn. The strut mounts are new as well so I wouldn't think its that, and the weird part is occurs when i left or right.
Are you sure someone did not install your outer tie rods on the wrong side? Like put the driver on the passenger and the passenger on the driver side? Sounds like your problem to me.
You're in the GS section. But on the RX there are several things that can be the cause. There are ball joints, tie rod ends, cv axles, and upper strut mounts that all move with the steering. There are also engine and a trans mounts that could be the cause if it's more of a transition in weight from forward to backward movement. A continued clicking or popping when turning is usually a cv axle on a FWD. A single pop is likely a binding ball joint or upper strut mount. You should probably just take it in for a suspension check. Some RXs are AWD and there is a driveshaft and rear diff to consider too.
