Default Time for rear differential flush? Suggestions?

I have a 2001 GS430 with approximately 104,000 miles. Was starting to consider doing a rear differential flush but was wondering at what milestones you would consider doing this, how often, should you use OEM fluids or is there better?, and if it's worth doing yourself or taking it to a mechanic? As I believe you have to have a liquid pump in your possession to attempt doing this job. Any suggestions/insight would be appreciated

4 days of rain is putting my change of the differential fluid off here. Glad I saw the threads before hand. I came across a quart/gallon pump fitting combo with hoses at Oriely auto parts that should help out for $9.

I have done the diff fluid change on my 98 GS4 a few times. I use local Canadian Tire (Motomaster brand) synthetic diff fluid. I'm guessing its rebranded Mobil or Castrol fluid. Been using this stuff for over 15 years in my cars. My '92 Cressida went over 580K Km (360K miles) on the original diff before I sold the car. Never had an issue with the diff. On the GS4 I'm at 375K km and still no noises or issues.

What type of fluid are you guys using? The fluid in the DIY is not diff fluid. Just curious.....

Thanks

I want to get this done on my car too. How important is it to replace both the drain and filler plug, as well as both crush washers? Some folks in the RX forum are replacing them.

Just remember to undo the fill plug before you do the drain plug. If the fill plug is seized, no point in draining the fluid...

If you need the car the day you do it or next day, I would recommend having the drain and fill plugs on hand. The hex fitting strips very easily. I had to notch a groove in mine first time I did it and use a flat head attachment to the air gun to get it off.
