Default Replacement Alternators

Where are you guys getting your replacement alternators from? I am pretty sure mine is out, so it will be getting replaced with an OEM one. I have seen threads that mentioned a more powerful, aftermarket one, but I do not plan on having any extensive audio upgrades. I only have a 12inch JL w6 that does not get pushed to its limit on a daily basis. Any good websites that you guys have used to buy the alternator? I have a 1998 GS400. I will be getting the power steering pump checked out for leaks beforehand to make sure that's not causing the problems with the alternator.

So it seems that the power steering fluid was leaking onto the alternator causing it to overheat. How much should I expect to pay for all this?

install 50

most if not all alternators at your b&m parts stores are denso reman and should come with lifetime warranty

knock down ~50 if you plan on buying online.

Just my $0.02:

Consider taking old alternator to reputable auto electric rebuilder if one is local. You -might- only have to replace the brushes if, after testing, they don't find anything wrong with it. On a D-Chrysler Denso, that was a 20 minute (exclusive of wait) and ~$15-20 fee IIRC. And...you can also get idea of health of alternator and bearings, etc. YMMV.

I replace my alternators only when the slip rings on the rotor are worn passed the copper.
Otherwise I just clean it up and install a freash set of brushes and or bearings.

The IPC also shows you all the internals. The Regulator can also be changed separately. The Diodes should be quite bulletproof, as long as the power steering pump does not short your alternator.

Ahh wish you guys had responded earlier! My shop replaced the alternator already. Not sure how much it was cause my dad handled it since he knows the shop very well. He refers them alot of customers so I'm pretty sure I got a hookup price.

Now I just gotta fix the door actuators. Looks like the passenger door went out along with the alternator -_-"
