After viewing another diagram, I have determined that the speed sensor in the FRONT of the transmission is the VSS. Vehicle Speed Sensor, which controls Speedo and ODO. Now, in our cars, the PCM needs a signal from ABS, VSS and another speed sensor that is located in the rear by the differential, because that is the final drive. The PCM needs two of those signals so it can determine vehicle speed to send to the Speedometer. Now, if your ABS wheel speed sensor is broken, that does not turn off the Speedometer, just throws an ABS,VSC and VSC OFF lights on the dash. Posting this for anyone who may have the same problem, they can view this thread.

Final point. If your Speedo and ODO are not moving, it is the VSS located in the front of the trans. You can try checking the connecting and cleaning it first before replacing, that may fix the problem, if not. Replace it. Hope this helps, Ill get started on thursday and post again with my conclusion.

Im having a similar problem, Replaced one wheel sensor already (front passenger) i have been hitting the brakes and the car will start to come to a stop, then at the end of at the stop it skips or hick ups causing the car to jolt forward... brakes also make a strange buzzing noise and stiffes.. no abs or ,vsc lights or check engine.. also having hard time going into 1st and 2nd... Transmission revs high in 1st and 2nd and slams into gear occasionally.. any help would be awesome!!!

So, I cant really seem to get to the VSS at all, thought I could just wiggle my hand up there. But it turns out, to access the VSS.... you might just have to drop the transmission. Anyone else know a way to get to the VSS?

What ever happened with this? A little old, but maybe someone found a way to access the sensor easier than dropping the trans
