Default 2000 LS: ABS sensor= no speedo?

I was replacing the rear wheel bearings on my 00 LS400. Had to cut the sensor wire to get knuckle off then beat the sensor out from the inside.
I wired the sensor back in (black and white wire inside) however may have damaged the sensor as the plastic covered over the front (where it sits near the encoder disc) has exposed metal.
WHen i fired the car back up I have no speedo, and the odometer does not go up. Think a brand new sensor should cure this? Cruise works.
Always though it was the speed sensor on the transmission that recorded speed?

Thanks.

The sensor is likely toast. Replace the sensor and note back. I may be mistaken but for 98-00 I think the ECU uses the trans for vehicle speed but correlates with the ABS sensors. Can't remember ow that works.
