10. Considering how hard I drive this car and all it's been through and hardly any problems, a 10. This car has met and exceed my expectations when STOCK. Now modded, this car has become truly something I am happy to pay for and own.
Great work Lexus. We'll continue to buy your products if the cars continue to be the best built.

Probably because I am going from a 540 to this car (let the flames begin). Seriously, for $4K more (sticker price I know), the 540 was a much better car. I expected a slight downgrade, but not this.
1. Car rattles
2. Steering is so light you can turn it with one finger
3. Lots of road noise
4. Suspension rattles
5. Car handles like an LS430 - yea I know I can put the L-Tuned Suspension on it, but seriously, in this category, the GS430 should come with it.
6. TERRIBLE dealer service
So I rate it a 5 because of what it delivers for its cost. Used might be a different story, but if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have leased this car. I am hoping a different dealer can fix my issues above and restore my confidence in Lexus and their service.

PS almost forgot - that damn ticking noise from the engine - especially when the car is cold. They say it is the fuel injectors. Those are noisey fuel injectors. I heard the noise on a friends GS400 although not as bad.

I'm really pleased with mine, bought new in '98 and just turned 77,000 with it. Shipping it up from Texas to Illinois with delivery here tomorrow and gotta immediately go get snow tires since we got 4" of the white stuff today. I rate pretty tough so a 9.9999 is really top notch, only have had to replace battery twice due to what I believe is using the auto-on lights continuously. Now only use when I am around town, too much time in airport garage idle and I think that killed the batteries. Other than this, absolutely nothing and it still gives me goosebumps when it's detailed and all ready for the dance!

But maybe that's because I'm a guy coming from more typical american cars such as Mark VII's , Caddy's etc. , and this is the first real "high end" car I've owned and it's easy to be impressed at this level. However, I have driven a few Mercedes ('98 E320 ) and BMW's (not the 540's though) and Seville STS's of the same vintage and the GS really is a better car in every respect that is important to me. We all can't agree on subjective stuff anyway, that's just life.
If I drove the 540i or the new CLK's or V8 Audi's I might be able to make a fairer comparison and lower my vote by a tad, but for now, the "10" stands.

in other words 9-10
