Question

I was hoping someone may have some input about this problem. I live 2.5 hours from a dealer so repairs and troubleshooting is not easy!
Since purchasing my certified 99 GS4 in December I have had a problem with the drivers side HID light not coming on. This happens about 20% of the time. It will occur if the low beams come on automatically or they are manually turned on. When this occurs I can turn the lights off and back on and always within 2 or three cycles I have both HID lights again. It seems to definitely be something with the on/off process, I have driven the car for many miles with the one light on and the driver side does not seam to flicker, etc.-the only way to get it back on is to turn off and on. The dealer replaced the HID light assembly with was shown to be about a $270 part but this did not fix the problem. They have not seen the problem to this point so they are not willing to replace something else until they can see the problem. Any ideas on what it could be???? Thanks!

I don't have any insight into your problem. Sounds electrical, depending on what it is they actually replaced. The one thing that puzzles me about your remark is the cost of that part that was replaced. The HID assembly is closer to $1K per side. I con't know what $270 gets you. Can you be more precise about what they replaced?

Oops, my mistake they only replaced the bulb-this was the warranty charge of $263.

terry... I'm no expert, but I believe, like a fluorescent bulb, the HID lights have a 'ballast' which builds up a charge to get the lights going. And like a flakey fluorescent, it sounds like your ballast is shot, not the bulb.

That's my free (probably incorrect) thoughts...
