help me diagnose a prob please
i have a gurgling noise coming from the dash area. i can only hear it when accelerating form a dead stop. it sounds like water swooshing around somehwere near the front vents. i started after my 30k service. i plan to take it back to lexus this week but was wondering if anyone has had this problem. im afraid i wont be able to reproduce the problem when i get there, beacuse it seems more evident when the car is cold. its a 2000 gs400. thanks.
Damn I don't know bro.... What you should do is, if you dealership is close to your house or work just see if they could have a tech come out and check it while it's cold... There's a good chance that they'd do it... I hope you find out what's causing that swooshing... Goodluck....
It is air in the coolant system - you are hearing it in the heater core. My 91 Supra used to do this and then shortly after ended up with a no heat situation which turned out to be a bad head gasket. As you don't have a GS300, then you probably just need to get the air out. If you had a GS300 it would point to a possible bad head gasket.

I HAVE A 2000 GS400. I HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS AIR IN YOUR SYSTEM. WHEN THEY PERFORMED THE COOLANT SERVICE AT 30K THEY LET AIR IN THE SYSTEM. JUST ADD SOME COOLANT AND IT WILL GO AWAY. THIS WILL SAVE A TRIP TO THE DEALER AND THEM POSSIBLY TRYING TO BLAME SOMEONE ELSE. GOOD LUCK
I got a 99 GS300 and I have the exact same problem. I did not take it to the dealer because I dont have a warranty and the dealer wanted $80 just to take a look. So I just tried to ignore it thinking its no big deal but it is the most annoying sound. Definetely will try to add the coolant. If that works for you post it ok.

Filling the side resrvoir will not help.
Step by step procedure is:
With the radiator COLD remove the radiator cap. Top up if rquired.
With the cap removed, start the engine.
Turn heater to hot with fan at low speed.
Idle, till the temp rises enough to open the thermostat. (radiator cooling fan turns on). Add coolant slowly if required.
Put the radiator cap back on.

Had a similar problem, after changing my coolant.
The cause is trapped air in the heater core.
I got rid of it by raising the front of the car (parked on a steep hill) , turning on the heat full blast and reving the engine.
The air passed and I just topped off the radiator.
Good luck
