And just as it's setup by Lexus they can change it for you if you want... "C-BEST" Settings.......

Some setting you can do under " C-Best" and this one is not. Just like PaulGS430 said it's not the problem, mine does the same.

Are you sure??? I asked my guy at Lexus and he said he can plug in his little computer and change it for me....... I haven't got it done yet, but when I go to Lexus I'll tell him to give it a shot... Maybe he thinks I'm talking about something else, but maybe not... I'll report back in a few days and let you know what happened...

Default dim dash

Later model GS has more options in "C-best" but not in 1999 GS.
I tried, dealer could not do it.

It can be adjusted via C-Best settings under Section 8 (lighting)

DISP EX ON SEN
(Display Extinction ON Sensor) NORMAL

The function changes the amount of light the Automatic Light Control Sensor must detect to dim the instrument panel lights, indicator lights and navigation screen lights from the full illumination condition.
DARK2: Lights will dim in darker conditions.
LIGHT2: Lights will dim in lighter conditions.
The tail lights must be ON for this function to operate.
NOTE: GS430/300 functions operate the same as above, except this function has not effect on gauge lights (speedometer, tachometer, etc.)

DISP EX OFF SEN

Thanks for the write-up bro, but I didn't understand "NOTE: GS430/300 functions operate the same as above, except this function has not effect on gauge lights (speedometer, tachometer, etc.)

NORMAL/

What does it do then?? Just the radio and air controls??

Tiny, don't think you can... From what I heard Lexus has to hook-up their little hand held computer to the car and change it that way...

Question Question

So if I print this thread out and take it up to my local mechanic(Davenport) they could it?? I've been discussing this issue with Jimmy up at Davenport last time I was there and he's noticed it too. If it was easy enough I think I could talk him into doing it for free.

Is think computer the same one they plug in the socket under the left side of the dash, left of the wheel?? I'd really like to try this out. I'm assuming this will work for a '98 GS4, yes??

Blanco, your mechanic will need the Lexus customize card program. Most of the independent shop got the diagnostic card, not customized.
I already try this customize or C-Best myself( as a Lexus tech), but the light 1 setting only make my Auto Headlight comes on sooner on my GS430. The dash light still the same, but it's brighter under the sunlight. It's dimmer at night. I think Lexus designed it this way so it won't blind your eyes at night and you can see it more clearer in the sunlight.
I used to have a 95 LS and that thing will blind my eyes if I set to Max.

Default Lexus knows about this

Lexus knows about this..

My rep called Lexus and he said that Lexus knows about it and they are working on a solution. He said they would contact me once the TSB is released.

So whoever said, Its not a problem just a little dim is wrong. My **** is WAY dim. The scarey thing is I think it has something to do with the alternator or something cuz If I sit with the car in park or with the brake pressed for a decent amount of time the dash gets bright again. 3 or 4 miles down the road it'll start getting dim again.

I think this may just be a problem mainly with 02/03 GS430 but it could be more wide spread.

Hohlraum....
I agree. I think it must have something to do with the alternator. I notice mine getting dim when only at certain times but usually when I'm braking. However, my episode with the tinting and the doors being open lead me to believe that something is going on.

Be interested to hear what your rep says.

Thanks
C
