Just purchased My First Lexus!! A CPO 1999 GS300....What an awsome car. Had a spoiler put on the rear...Now I want to know how I can disconnect the brake light in the rear window. As it reflects off of the spoiler. The spoiler has a brake light in it. I think they wired it to the rear lights. Any suggestions. I tried disconnecting the light and also taking out the bulbs. But when I do I get the annoying warning light for the tail lights.
yap, you already tired the first option, as many did, would not work. unless you can just ingore the warning light on the dash.
i think someone here did a write up on this matter long time ago,and figure out thow to fix that, you probably need to do an extensive search to find that thread.
or, the expensive way would be to replace the whole deck.
i disonnected the socket on the 3rd brake light, my dash light went on. I first covered the dash light with a small bit of electrical tape. That started to look ugly to me, so I opened the dash and pulled the bulb for the indicator light. That worked fine and no more warning light. The only bad side, is that you need to pay attention to when bulbs go out as the indicator will no longer light up.
Thanks for the ideas. I just took out the third light and taped over the red lense with black electrical tape. It works fine and the tinted windows keep you from seeing the tape. I pulled the entire red lense out and just taped it. Then put it back in turned out nice.
I followed the advice to put the lights from the deck brake light in the trunk and did not have to drill a hole.
Remove the lights from the deck mounting. Cut off both separable connectors.
Pull out the plastic clip that holds the wire running to trunk area. This will leave a small hole into the trunk where the clip was.
Thread the wire into trunk. Tape the lights up under top of trunk and reconnect the wires to the lights. I used wire nuts to reconnect the wires.
Red-Green to red wire. Black to White-Black wire and Green to Green-white wire.
Lights still work in trunk, but no one can see them.
Don
I think if you remove the lights and then pinch the post that fit over the bulb to hold it in place you then close the circut. Dont forget that there are two sets for each bulb. Once the circut is closed the dash warning light should stay off and come on if any other lights fail, and remember if the two post are not in constant contact you'r dash light will come on.
there's actually a different light failure sensor in the trunk for those w/ and w/o spoilers. They run almost 300 bucks each, but if its worth it to you, might as well do it.
