Default My Ride Codename Red Eft

Hi guys,

I recently bought my dad's 98 GS400 just last summer. It's in excellent condition for it's age and i'm looking into doing some work to her.

The snow here as finally melted so i've installed my new wheels last weekend. Enkei PF01 18x8 front and 18x9.5 rear on Dunlop Direzzas. Although we just got about 5cm of snow today so it's back in a garage.

List of mods that i'm looking into right now. I'd really appreciate any advice/recommendation anyone has on the following.

Suspension - I'd like to drop the ride hight a little. I'm thinking of buying H&R Street Performance coilovers or Bilstein PSS. It looks like Tein Dampers are a popular choice too. Which would you guys recommend? I'll also like to apply the front suspension fixes.
Brakes - New rotors and pads all around, maybe one day i'll buy a big brake kit for the front, but that won't be considered until next year.
Tint - 50/35/20%

This ride is my current inspiration. So, i don't want the suspension dropping too much, it looks like less than an inch in the rear and just over an inch in the front.

Very excited to get to work on this!

just buy springs if you only want to lower the car an inch or so, no need to buy coilovers

I was thinking coilovers so I could adjust height to preference. And if i'd like to drop more i can.

Everything looks good on your list. But if you can find the toyota japan radio that is color matched, you'll be much happier. The metra kit is black.

Any ideas where to start? Maybe my local dealer? I never been able to find something reasonable for this.

Alright, i suppose it's time for an update.

Before the install.

Well into the night.

Look closely at the bottom of the spring. It broke past the seat. I was hearing a very mild thud from there. That explains it.

Tein SS with EBC slotted/dimpled roters.

ANnnnndd... After the install! I was a happy chap that morning... All smiles, i couldn't stop.

Misc shots.

I will be raising the rear up about 1/4 to 1/2 and inch. It's a bit low for my taste.

Mods and maintenance items installed:
Rear (Pair) - EBC Sport Slotted & Dimpled Brake Rotors
Front (Pair) - EBC Sport Slotted & Dimpled Brake Rotors
PBR/Axxis Metal Master (XBG) FRONT Brake Pad Set
PBR/Axxis Metal Master (XBG) REAR Brake Pad Set
TEIN Dampers - Super Street
TEIN EDFC
Front Suspension Kit-Ball Joint Set (L&R)
GS Rack & Pinion Bushing Kit
GS Front Lower Control Arm #2 Bushings

TEIN EDFC is a very cool toy! There is a huge difference from soft to hard. When driving with a hard dampening on subpar roads, my face cringes and i'm certain I have a look of disgust! In other words, I likely will never leave it on hard while driving downtown streets. The TEIN SS are very nice, huge difference from stock spring/struts (obviously). If I had to do it again I'd do the same setup.

I bought the l-tuned (CarsonTuned) control arm bushings. If your wondering if you need to use the oem sleeves, yes you do. Lucky my brother was able to take care of that situation for me!

The car all in all feels awesome compared to before. Very happy with these mods. I don't plan on doing much more over the summer. Just tie rod ends, alignment, tint and window visors. That will likely all be done in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks to my buddies for helping! It was a fun night.
