Default A Big Rig Tire!!!

a couple nights ago i was driving home from a party at about 2 am. i was cruising at about 80 mph..when all of a sudden...i hear a big boom and realized i ran over something. so i pulled to the shoulder and saw that it was a huge tire just sitting in the middle of the freeway..my friend was following behind me and it hit him too. well when i got out to look at my car, i saw that my whole front bumper had shattered because its not a stock bumper and its made of fiberglass...so it shatters really easily..then i move to the back of my car..and half of my back bumper is hanging to the floor..and my friend, who was behind me, finds my under carriage under his car..into pieces which is now sitting in my trunk..and my radiator was blown ...and ma car was steaming...then i looked around and saw there were like 3 other cars pulled over on the shoulder..and they had ran over that same wheel...but my car had the most damage because it is reallly low and my bumpers are made of fiberglass..the funny thing is that it was right before the exit we were supposed to take...but i had to get it towed bacck to myy house..one thing that makes me mad is that the city is not paying for it. there were 5 or 6 cars that hit the same tire..and now my car is sitting at home with both bumpers to the ground....but i will get it fixed soon if my dad allows me to..

Cool

If I was you I would go back to the stock bumper and raise your car a little. Otherwise put some money aside for higher insurance rates.

Wrong. Ever heard of "overdriving your headlights"?

80+mph at 2am; perhaps it was difficult to react quickly enough.

GS4oo, I echo blue wax's statements; be glad you are OK, and the car can be repaired. Keep us posted.

Insurance should cover it just fine. I shattered a Mugen bumper once on my Type R and AAA insurance didn't even ask me for a receipt. They just wrote me a check for the amount minus the deductable.

That sucks, glad to hear your ok though.

Some guy on MB forums said he almost rear ended someone, and then later on, he noticed a couch in the middle of the road. Or was that on clublexus? I don't know if the city should pay for this, but you definetly should not have too!

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident . I hit a piece of a big rig tire and it just knocked out one of my foglights . All i had to do was give Steve a call and order a new foglight housing .

If there were 3 other cars on the side of the road messed up by this tire , one of them should have been kind and tried to get that tire off the road so it won't cause anymore damage. That's what i would have done .

None of the 3 had there hazards on ? That would have been a big warning that something was not right up ahead.

Why should the city pay for this ? They did'nt place the tire there. If you can find what trucker blew out his tire and left it there , that's the guy to go after if anybody.

On a freeway at 2 AM, I would never leave the shoulder. Sheesh... Not a good idea at all!

It probably would be safe to stay in you car , but i am not the type to let someone get hurt if i can help it. At 2 am , there shouldn't be too much traffic or none . It would only take 5 secs. to get that tire off the road . Grab that tire and get your butt back to the shoulder , no biggee .

5 secs is a lot of distance for a 80mph 4000lb car. i would only call the police or CHP at most
