Starter problem
, it was the scariest thing I have ever seen I thought my car was possesed by the devil himself, well let me explain, I turned my car on and all the check engine lights came on and my car was making a really funny sound, well so I decide to turn the car off and to my surprise the engine turned off but the starter kept turning over, even when the key was completly out of the ignition it still kept turning, the only way to stop it was to disconect the battery. welll this happend 3 weeks ago and my car is still in the shop, no lexus dealer had this part in all of the US, so they had to special order on from japan and my car should be done on monday. The worst part of all this is that the starter costs $550  and the labor is another $500
and even weirder the labor cost !!!!!!!
they make good money there.... for that amount, you replace almost everything on a car.... LOL
I would change dealer.... what a rip off
$550 for a factory starter sound reasonable
-Why didn't you ask your local autopart store for a factory recondition starter, cost around $200, same quality like the new one.
-$500 to change the starter is nutz
-Sound like your starter relay is messed up also (or the ignition key lock is bad) because there is not way if you cut the control line (relay ignition) to the starter (ie cut main power to the starter) and it still running, even with bad starter.
(else, there is some unknown force that I am not aware of )

Starter problem
well I have 99k miles on my car and my starter finally decided to die , it was the scariest thing I have ever seen I thought my car was possesed by the devil himself, well let me explain, I turned my car on and all the check engine lights came on and my car was making a really funny sound, well so I decide to turn the car off and to my surprise the engine turned off but the starter kept turning over, even when the key was completly out of the ignition it still kept turning, the only way to stop it was to disconect the battery.

==============================================
What was the problem? the starter or the relay?
Yesterday I had the same problem.
When I started the engine, there was a loud noise along with engine noise (sort of crane noise)
Then, I shut the ignition off & pulled the key, engine shut off.
However, that strange cranking noise continue for approx 30 second (enough time for me to open the hood and trunk trying to get a wrench)
Please see my post at https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=starter+relay
Please help!!
Thanks
