Default Should I sell it?

I've been considering selling my 02 GS430 and getting something newer. I recently bought an IS350, so the GS has pretty much been sitting. It currently has right under 115K and is in really good shape. Im extremely **** about my cars, and this one has been no exception. It is black on black with navi, ML sound system, chrome 17s and all the other goodies. I have a folder of records for the car. Im reluctant to sell it because I know how reliable these cars are, but if I can find something else I want i'd be willing to let it go. Does anyone have any suggestions on pricing? I looked on KBB, but it says way lower than what they're selling for on the internet. Im realistic about pricing so not expecting to get any ridiculous amount.

FIrst of all, how much did you buy it for?

Can't believe our cars depreciated that MUCH! According to KBB, your car is worth $9k.

Mines is an 03 and I got it for $20k and that was suppose to be a darn good deal. But that was in 2008. Sucks to see it go down that much. Makes me feel depreciated lol.

Off topic but our cars are even cheaper then a stock 2002 S2K! LOL sad.

I paid almost 18K for the car out the door back in 09. This was to much for the car at the time, but I had been looking for over 6 months and this was the first one that met my standards. A car isn't an investment. I recently sold my 05 Infiniti Q45 and made a few grand on it, but that is rare and even more rare on an Infiniti haha. I checked the book on mine for my area and it says private party in good condition is $10,500. I've put 35,000 miles on the car. I can't decide what to do.

That's true, car cannot be an investment. But depreciating from 18k in 2009 and 9k in 2011 that's a big of a jump.

I think you should keep it because you won't find another car like the one you got. Black on Black is rare. If you mod it, it will give you more reasons to like it and keep it. GL.

Supply and demand lol...all markets are local. if you list a price and get no bites, then you know you're asking too much

Couple of things to keep in mind
1) a car rolls past 100k miles, the buyer base severely diminishes
2) SoCal asking prices on cars tends to be high with lots of back and forth negotiating

You have a 02 right? So your car is 8-9 yrs with 115k miles, not seeing it I would peg the value at 20% of MSRP so 11k if it was perfect. In my experience, you typically don't get paid on the options with a car that's older.

The S2000 is a bit of a collector's car now so maybe they trade higher in the used market.

I wouldnt sell it, based off the logic that I base a cars value off of the price paid versus miles driven/years owned... the longer you own/drive it the more you get out of it. But it sounds like a hot item, if you put it on the forum it should move pretty quick... depending on your asking price of course. Good luck.

Got mine in July 2010
2001 GS430 White, Tan Leather, Navi, 19" MRR wheels, Tein CS Coil overs in exceptional shape for $11,500 at a ma and pop dealer. Even without the rims and coils the car should still be around that price.
I say between $11 and $13k in good shape

John....keep this in mind....i bought my car in Nov of 2007 with the bluebook of my 2001 GS430 being about 25k-30k depending on mileage, and condition. A few years later the gas crunch hit in 2009 (i think) and the bluebook fell immediately (although we get about the same gas mileage as the I6 models) and just never got back up...now that the cars getting 100k+ mileage some of the kids are starting to get them (by kids i mean the ricers) and driving the prices down even further. why do you think for the last year or so i been talking about getting into a LS430/460? anyways so my car took a depreciation from lets just say 25k (when i bought it, it only had 62k on it and all options except spoiler/17" chromies) to about 10k now i could probably get if im lucky

i paid 6g for my 98 GS300, swapped it, put maybe 8g worth of parts in it(?), and i was offered 25K for it yesterday. feels good.

the recession is what made our cars so super cheap, prior to 2007 i remember seeing GS's sell for a huge amount of cash, i never thought I would be able to buy one and do the things i wanted to do to it.
