Is this a Lexus thing or problem????
bought 01 gs430 few weeks ago...car is at 42K miles...2 things I noticed but not sure it's a Lexus thing or it's problem...
First it's front passenger door...once it's locked (say after car is driven) it cannot be opened by simply pulling the door opener...it has to be unlocked first (either by the black/red button next to the door opener or by unlocking whole car) before it can be opened...just front passenger (others work fine)...
Secondly idle speed...when park while engine hot (at the traffic light) it's always above 500..somewhere around 650 or 700...I can feel and a little kick when releasing the brake before driving...what is your gs430 (2nd gs for that matter) idle speed? My previous v8 benz CLK430 was only at 400 with A/C on...

thats normal. my Acura was the same way and my GS does it too(the idle thing) and every GS Ive been in does that lock feature. i guess its some sort of safety feature in case you have kids in the back and they hit the handle by mistake. (it does have child safety lock on the side of the door but thats not what im talking about)

chld safety doesnt make sense if its only the front passenger I have the same problem and whether the car has been driven or not, it could be the infamous actuator going out which I suppose is a Lexus thing but in my case it can only be unlocked from the inside by hand and locked only from the outside with key.

Nah, it's a dealer-programmable option. They'll change it to unlock automatically when the lever is pulled if you go to a toyota/lexus dealership. There's alot of programmable options only available thru the dealer: i.e. once the car is returned to P from D, you can have it automatically unlock all doors.

Yeah...I would love to know how much it costs to have it done...it's really annoying and it seems like your car lock is "broken"....
