Need help on maintenance questions
As some of you already know I've picked up a 98 GS300 two weeks ago. The car has 100K miles. Purchased from first owner who took it to Lexus. The maintenance schedule has been followed.
I've went through the service history of the car to see what else has been done other than regular maintenance.
- throttle body has been changed (related to VSC problem?)
- accelerator pedal has been changed (related to the above?)
- new Toyota battery
I've been doing quite some reading in the 2GS section and noticed that lower ball joints frequently fail on those cars.
The service history does not mention the replacement of the lower ball joints. I don't have any squeaking or clonking noises coming from the front, nor any popping noises coming for the steering. However, something tells me I should get those parts replaced. What do you guys think?
As for maintenance I'm going to do the following:
- engine oil (Mobil ESP 5W30)
- tranny oil (Toyota T-IV)
- diff oil (Mobil synth 75W90)
- oil filter
- oil control valve filter
- front & rear brake disks & pads (ATE disks, standard Ferodo pads)
- brake fluid
- cabin filter
- coolant
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
As for the timing belt, I have a 1600 euro invoice of the 90K maintenance. It's got the timing belt, tensioner, etc. replacement, but no waterpump. I believe Lexus does not specify the pump's replacement in the maintenance schedule, but most people change it to save on labor.
So what should I do with the ball joints? Replace them ASAP?
I got a quote from my dealer, the ball joints are 157 euro each ! That's more than twice as much as on Sewell, but Sewell wants more than $600 for shipping to Europe...

EDIT: I just read that Toyota Red is a "long-life" coolant, so I should be good for a 100K. I think mine was done about 15K ago (2 years). Should I still flush the system or can I leave it in for a while?
