Are all lexus key transponders equal?

Say I have an old key from a lexus ES. Could I remove the transponder off of that key and reprogram it on my GS?

Only thing about these keys is that you wont be able to lock/unlock your glovebox because the key is longer than the original lexus key.

OP how did you change the transponder which is the important piece in our key. does it just come out or what? im holding off on buying this till i contact peter at sewell and find out bout the transponder
Transponder just transfer over and fit perfectly.
I should have posted this thread over 2 yrs ago lol. I though most of you guys already knew about this. I'm prolly one of the first people to try this key

Most lexus dealerships will tell you this, matter fact majority car dealerships will tell anyone with a Uncut key this. You have to find a Car Key Locksmith to do it.

sakataj - the transponder just comes out as 1 piece...very easy to swap

Look's mine shipped already, I got the tracking number last night. It shouldn't cost more than $50. I had a local Lexus dealership tell me that they can't cut the key unless I bought it from them. Something about how it could damage their expensive equipment... I just took it to another local dealer and they cut it for $20, no questions asked, but that was a regular OEM key. I have no clue what they are going to say about this "flip-key"

Well, my key has surely seen better days, and is bound together with clear packing tape. I just ordered one myself. Does anyone know where I can also order a blank key without the buttons, like a valet key almost. I've never had a spare for this car, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
