Door Lock Problem, Not actuators...
Alright guys so i've been having some trouble with my door locks since i picked up my car almost 2 years ago. At first it was just the passenger side door lock actuators that weren't working but i fixed those by replacing just the motors. But now for some reason everytime i hit the lock button on my remote it double locks and doesnt beep, the lights dont turn off if you press it twice, and when you unlock the car, the interior lights don't come on. On top of that i can't program any new remotes and it doesnt sense when my rear doors are open (problem since day 1). My dad's a master tech for toyota so he knows his stuff. We think its one of the body ecu's. Problem is, there's so many damn body ecu's on this car. Anyone have any ideas on how to narrow it down to find out which body ecu is faulty? any ideas are helpful. This car's starting to get expensive, just dropped $500 on a new compressor and O2 sensor. looks like no new upgrades are happening anytime soon
Well for not sure how master your pops be. But this is your door lock actuators not getting the lock position signal from the doors. As in maybe when you swapped them, something is not plugged back in. The double lock happens when the door lock does not lock, and tries again.
Sit in the car. Unlock all the doors from the insice by pulling the lock tab. don't use the unlock button. Do it manually. Then hit the lock button. Check which door stays unlocked. Do the same thing in reverse as well. Lock every door manually and then unlock with the remote. Check which door did not unlock. Do this and you will find the culprit door.

Just for you. Read post 133 through 135 very carefully. Then go to the next page and look at the pic in post 140. See that metal strip that looks arches, that is what those plasic arms rub against and let your car know when the motor worked, like when it locked and when it unlocked. This controls the lights and the double lock function. Im pretty sure you messed up here.

ok. so i did what you said and you we're right, rear passenger side door actuator is out again. so that solves my double lock problem but not my problem with programing new remotes or my rear courtesy lights being out. I still believe there is a problem with 1 one of the body ecu's. any thoughts?
No dude, not the body ECU. I told you. Read the link and post that I mentioned above. That door lock actuator is A FORM OF MECHANICAL ECU for your lights. If it was assembled incorrectly, it will not turn on your lights. If the unit is malfunctioning completely, it will not turn on your lights. If those arms on the actuator are not alligned in their positions, it will not turn on the lights.
As far as programming new remotes. I have a guy in Brooklyn NY that does this stuff for me. Basically as far as i know, your car may have had a bunch of keys already programmed. There is a limit of 5 or 6 as far as I remember. You might have to find someone that can log into your ECU and erase all the previous keys. A specialty alarm shop should have a computer like that. Not sure though, this guy is a security recovery agent on the side, so his stuff might be dealer bought. Check out some high end alarm shops and see if they can help.
I honestly don't know the sequence on how to program the key, but I am sure you can find that somewhere. Give that a try first. It looked easy when my guy did it.
