OK CL members, I've tried the search function to no avail and I am having an interesting problem. Lately, when I am listening to the radio or a CD in my car, (01 GS430 NAV/ML) every now and then the audio goes in and out. It has been happening more so lately and I am clueless as to what is causing it. Sometimes, I even notice that the audio settings for treble, mid, and bass as well as the fade and balance controls are not there. When I say not there, I mean the audio controls are all blank. In order to get them back, I have to hold down on the touchscreen on either side to get the settings back. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance.
start looking for a new ML amp. Had this ghostly problem for one winter - ASL button disappears from nav screen, bass-mid-treble are all going haywire, only 1 speaker would work, and all kinds of weird crap that a Lexus tech couldn't 'replicate'. I've dealt with that one winter, shutting car off to get audio back, resett the battery. And last winter with a first below zero temp - ML amp finally passed on. Cheapest i've found with a 6month warranty was $450, there were plenty 'as-is, untested' on eBay for $150. I wasnt too thrilled with ML sound output so went all aftermarket with my stock NAV still working(despite what some threads and most stereo shops said).
There are some threads here with members successfully replacing a ML amp from a LS430 but i'd still be cautious about dropping $200~ for amp that could crap out again in a month.
So it depends which solution suits you best. Good luck.
To give members a further idea of what I am talking about, this is what I turned my car on to this morning. Needless to say, I have no audio. Lexus gurus?
exact situation i was dealing with. described in my post #2.
Sweet thanks.. Luckily, I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 501X 1500W 4-channel amp here. I think I am going to connect it up and hopefully I'll be back in business. I appreciate your posts. Hopefully my installer will be able to get my amp to work with my stock NAV system as well.
You're welcome. But as far as my research went - you cannot change out the ML amp for anything aftermarket. I'm thinking the cheapest way to go is get another ML and hope it works.
me - as i said, wasn't satisfied with ML anyway plus used ML amps were crappy(when i looked for them). I've decided to spend extra and go all aftermarket -hu, speakers, amps and a sub. Still got my stock NAV working!!! Good luck with your install.
